On The Fence? Make Good Outdoor Decisions With These Tips

25 Aug 2011 / Comments Off / in Fence Sense/by admin

Have you ever been faced with a simple decision that didn’t seem so simple? At times it is difficult to make the best choice when planning landscape, planting a garden, or painting outdoor fixtures. Here are some common choices that may pop up, along with the better choice.

1) If your overhead lighting and house numbers have not been updated in years, but still function, you should:

A Purchase new hardware as a replacement

or

B Continue to use them.

A is right. A few new fixtures will bring new life to your entry way. Your current pieces may be outdated and dingy.

2) That front door is starting to look shabby and needs a fresh coat of paint what color options are best?

A Should always be Black or White

or

B May be painted a bright or bold color.

B is the right choice. Black and white make fine doors, but a bright or interesting color will attract your visitors and draw their eye to the focal point of your house.

3) What decisions can effect property value and makes a better impression on neighbors and guests?

A Store toys, sporting equipment, and tools on the porch

or

B Keep the porch clean and clear of equipment and tools.

B is the correct answer. It is vital to keep your porch and front lawn clear of clutter. A clean space is more visually appealing and inviting than one dotted with random lawn ornaments and toys.

4) When picking and using mulch:

A Pick an organic mulch and make the mulch layer fairly thin.

or

B Use a free or cheap synthetic mulch and make sure there is a tall mound.

A is the right answer because a thin layer of organic mulch will keep the ground cool, let plant roots breathe, and break down to enrich the soil. Choosing a free mulch or cheaper variety may contain unpleasant surprises, such as weeds and diseased wood or plants.
