Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t have a fencing background. Is that a problem?
Most of our franchisees don’t, and in fact most don’t have experience in construction. While that kind of experience can be helpful, the training we provide and your desire to succeed will make the biggest difference.

Can I work from my home?
In most territories you can work from home. This is a great way to start your Guier Fence franchise so you can keep overhead low, learn the systems and build a customer base. Some franchisees feel like having an office and/or a showroom will give them greater opportunities. Other factors that determine whether you can be home based depends on suppliers, installation crews and city codes.

How long does it take to open?
You’re required to open within 90 days of signing the franchise agreement unless a special exception is granted by the franchisor. Our program typically allows franchisees to open as soon as 45 days after signing the franchise agreement.

Who is my customer?
Homeowners who need to replace or install a new fence, repair customers, and light commercial projects.

Why does Guier focus on residential and light commercial?
We discourage new franchisees from taking on this level because of bonding capacity that smaller businesses cannot obtain. Most also lack sufficient capital to fund materials and labor and length of time to get paid on completed work can be extensive. Many small fence companies fail because they enter the commercial market too quickly without the capital to operate their business properly.

What is the sales process?
We teach you how to sell our products during your training. It starts and ends with providing a positive customer experience! The first step is to determine the customer’s needs, develop a design recommendation, create an estimate based on measurements and materials, then present the bid. This is all done in one appointment with the homeowner!

Guier Fence differentiates ourselves from the competition by providing a positive customer experience utilizing a consultative approach. Customers appreciate our low pressure approach and this translates into a higher closing ratio for you. The right marketing mix makes the phone ring; the customer experience makes them buy.

Who does installation?
Franchisees may employ their own installers or hire professional subcontractor crews. This usually depends on local market conditions.

Who’s my competition?
The competition varies by market.

Will I have to pay fees?
There is a one-time franchise purchase fee as well as monthly royalty and advertising fees. You can get started for as little as $53,000. This includes the $25,000 franchise fee.

What does the franchise fee pay for?
Brand usage rights, a protected territory, 4-week initial training in Blue Springs Missouri, the right to use our operations systems, on-site assistance for your grand opening, marketing assistance, continued training, and a start up pack of necessary business and marketing materials.

Is there a peak selling time in the fence business?
It depends on the territory. Most franchisees sell year-round.

How do I find potential customers?
Our Director of Marketing will work with you to develop a lead generation plan.

What are my revenue sources in this business?
Commissions from selling our product paying yourself a salary as an employee producing a net profit.
